these bonfires in my spine

come on baby... surfin safari
Okay, even if you are a celebrity chef, why name your child PETAL BLOSSOM RAINBOW??? That is, like, too much for me this morning.

I haven't been sleeping well all week, and that really took its toll on me yesterday. I got up to my field site and realized I had brought 1/4 of the equipment I needed. Sigh. So I went around looking at flowers and taking photos then went home.

I'm teaching sophomore intro biology this quarter and I can already tell its going to be an experience. Wednesday night this dude shows up 30 minutes late, "yes ma'am"s me when I scold him for doing so (I AM NOT  MA'AM!!!) and then later in the lab proceeds to 1) dye his arms in strange patterns with crystal violet 2) play house/dance music loudly on his phone and 3) rave dance. I was laughing so hard I didn't even know what to say. Drugs do strange things, I tell you.

Another dude waltzed in 15 minutes late then whips out his phone to send a text message in the middle of my lecture. I stopped and told him to put the phone away in front of the class. He was shocked and hurried to explain himself later. Do this people not understand? I do not care how sorry you are. What you need to get is that texting while someone is talking to you is EXACTLY as rude as answering your phone and carrying on a conversation.

All this texting, twittering, etc. is ruining social skills. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I wish I could ban cell phones completely in my class. I just don't even want to see them.

I've been working on writing during the intro biology lectures. I'm required to attend, but since there are 600 people or so it doesn't really matter what I do. Maybe someday I'll have a halfway lucid concept for a book instead of these scrawling bits of nothing. But wait, I have no time. Grad school rules.

Looking forward to my Hawaii trip in September and trying to plan a short getaway to the East Coast to see a friend earlier this summer. Other than that, its the same old, same old around here. Oh, I started watching Firefly lately and it makes me miss Buffy and Angel.

my apologies
